The Curious Travellers Project
Curious Travellers: Thomas Pennant and the Welsh and Scottish Tour 1760-1815
Great news about a new AHRC-funded project, jointly run by the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies and the University of Glasgow.
The focus of this project is on the ‘discovery’ of Wales and Scotland in the Romantic period in the wake of Pennant’s highly successful published tours of both countries. The partners are also hoping to track down, catalogue and at least partially transcribe Pennant’s scattered and extensive correspondence, the results of which will be freely available on-line.
They plan to have many events and exhibitions exploring the rich mixture of literary/ visual/ scientific material in the tours, and we will of course plan to organise visits to these.
Dr. Mary-Ann Constantine, Senior Research Fellow at University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, Aberystwyth, has announced that the project starts in September this year, and that more details will soon be available on their dedicated website. This will be made available on our web-site as soon as possible.
